‘Driving Home for Christmas’ A Not To Be Missed Christmas Special with Grimes and McKee
Well-known comic double act and writers Conor Grimes and Alan McKee aka Grimes and McKee are back at Lyric Theatre with another Christmas special - Driving Home for Christmas. Running from 19 Nov - 04 Jan and directed by Frankie McCafferty, this is guaranteed to be classic Grimes and McKee and one not to be missed.
Join us at the Dander Inn, one of the many claimants to being the highest pub in Ireland. It is Christmas Eve and a once-in-a-century snowstorm rages over the country. Various travellers take refuge in the pub as the road becomes impassable. All communication with the outside world has been cut off by the storm. It soon becomes clear that they will have to camp out in the pub, until they can be rescued. Nobody wants to be there, but they take solace in the fact that there are worse places to spend the night than a pub, right?
When the superser runs out of gas they huddle together for heat and getting really, really ‘hangry’ they tell stories to remind themselves that it’s Christmas and begin to wonder, are they trapped or are they prisoners? And will they ever make it out?
Looking forward to the start of the show, director of Driving Home for Christmas, Frankie McCafferty said:
”Grimes and McKee’s script is as sharp as a tack, hilariously depicting sane, rational people who descend into snowbound abandon. This is guaranteed to be a classic which will definitely help to get you into the festive mood!”
Jimmy Fay, Executive Producer of Lyric Theatre Belfast, added:
“Driving Home for Christmas is a brilliant addition to our 2019 Christmas programme. We are delighted to have Grimes and McKee back, along with a brilliantly talented cast, in what can only be described as a spookily funny Christmas tale. On behalf of all the team at Lyric Theatre we would like to thank all our patrons for their support throughout 2019 and wish you all a very Merry Christmas.”
Driving Home for Christmas runs at Lyric Theatre Belfast from 19 Nov - 04 Jan. Tickets are now available, starting from £12 at www.lyrictheatre.co.uk or 028 9038 1081.
